WORKING WITH THE SWAROVSKI FOUNDATION TO HELP SUPPORT WOMEN SURVIVORS OF WAR
PROVIDING 350 MARGINALISED WOMEN IN NIGERIA WITH IMPROVED LIVERLIHOODS, RIGHTS AWARENESS AND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PARTICIPATION
In 2014, the Swarovski Foundation generously committed to supporting Women for Women International’s work through a three-year partnership, which saw almost 500 marginalised women in Nigeria participate in Women for Women International’s 12-month social and economic empowerment programme.
In 2018, we were grateful to renew our partnership with the Swarovski Foundation and enrol another 350 women, who will benefit from a year of classes which will support them to lay the foundations for more stable and prosperous futures.
While participating in the programme, women learn about their rights, managing their finances, improving their and their families’ health and wellbeing, and how to build social networks and emotional support. They also learn vocational and business skills to access livelihoods and break free from poverty.
Our partnership is based on a longstanding relationship between Women for Women International and Swarovski. Over the last few years, Swarovski has supported our fundraising events through sponsorship, providing auction items and goody bags. Swarovski sponsored our high-profile Catwalk Show and Auction in November 2014 and our #SheInspiresMe Lunch in June 2016.
Nadja Swarovski, Chair of the Swarovski Foundation and Member of the Swarovski Executive Board, is an Ambassador for Women for Women International, helping us to bring global attention to the realities of women’s lives in conflict-affected countries.
Salzburg Women’s Panel
As a company with a majority female consumer base and workforce, Swarovski strives to champion women’s empowerment. In August 2017, Swarovski hosted a panel in Salzburg, focusing on gender equality and women’s empowerment and invited our Executive Director, Brita Fernandez Schmidt, to speak on the topic.
About the Swarovski Foundation
The Swarovski Foundation aims to build on Swarovski's heritage of philanthropy by supporting charitable initiatives and organisations across three areas: fostering culture and creativity, promoting wellbeing, and conserving natural resources. Their generous support for Women for Women International forms part of the Foundation’s aim to promote women’s empowerment and enable access to health and education, therefore helping our charity to create a supportive environment in which women can thrive and work towards self-sufficiency in all aspects of their lives.
